The DIP Method

The DIP Method is a technique primarily used by speed painters to shade and varnish large numbers of miniatures relatively quickly. My interest in it is primarily because this varnish makes for very durable miniatures.

Minwax PolyShades

This was the first varnish that I used. The reason it’s called the DIP method is that you literally dip the miniatures into this can, let the excess drip off, sponge off unwanted pooling, and then let them dry. For better or for worse, the shading effect can be very dramatic.
