Horace “Action” Johnson and The Black Mist

After finishing the Goblin and Rats, I decided to practice by painting actual humans. I selected Horace “Action” Johnson and The Black Mist. These were two more models that I got in the original Reaper Bones Kickstarter. I went with a Confederate take on The Black Mist and, while I learned a lot, I think it could have turned out a lot better. One of my youngest brother’s favorite anime is Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo so I went with that theme for Horace “Action” Johnson…I thought it turned out great before I stained and varnished it using the DIP method.

You can see the results for yourself. The DIP Method actually improved The Black Mist a bit but it significantly darkened the bright blue of Horace “Action” Johnson’s shirt. This is how I learned that it’s important to clean off excess varnish. Both turned out usable but I found myself wishing that I’d waited to do Horace “Action” Johnson until I was better at this…it’s a fun sculpt and it would have been cool to add sunglasses*.

*I guess I could still do that.
